Individual Plans For Your Family - Orr Insurance & Investment

Individual Plans for your Family..

No one has a crystal ball – none of us like to think about getting sick, but it is very much a reality for us and those around us.

Did you know there are individual plans out there that can cover you and/or your family for health and dental expenses? Whether you’re losing group coverage or have never had it, protecting your family from large health and dental expenses can be a necessary investment. At Orr Insurance & Investment we will help to find the right insurance to protect you and/or your family from these expenses. Orr offers an individual dental insurance plan for you and your family that is affordable and customizable. Our agents are well-versed in dental insurance plans and can help you select the best plan for your needs.

What is covered

In the individual health/dental plan market there are set plans with set coverages. Depending on your needs, you will be able to choose from a few different health insurance and dental insurance plans that cover certain benefits with different maximums. Some plans will require you to answer health questions from the medical questionnaire to understand any pre-existing conditions you have and some will not. If you or any dependents are currently taking medications you may want to steer towards the plans with no health questions.

Health – Here are a few of the things that can be covered under individual health insurance plans for you and/or your dependents:

  • Prescription drugs
  • Travel Coverage
  • Vision
  • Massage Therapist, Chiropractor, Physiotherapist, Osteopath, Naturopath, Podiatrist, Acupuncturist, Dietitian, Psychologist, Psychotherapist, Clinical Counsellor, Speech Pathologist/Therapist (paramedical services)
  • Orthotics
  • Ambulance Services
  • Homecare Nursing (Registered Nurse, PSW, Occupational Therapist)
  • Prosthetic Appliances
  • Accidental Death & Dismemberment

Dental – Here are a few of the things in dental care that can be covered under the individual dental plans for your and/or your dependents:

  • Basic Services for dental protection: fillings, cleanings, scalings, examinations, preventative cleaning polishings, and select extractions
  • Annual check-ups
  • periodontal treatment
  • Oral Surgery
  • Periodontics
  • Endodontics (root canal)
  • Major Dental (orthodontics, crowns, bridges, dentures) – benefits typically commence in year 2

Add-ons

– with select insurance plans there are a few “add-ons” that you can have included for an additional premium/monthly premiums:

  • Catastrophic: this add-on requires health questions and can be added to give you and/or your family higher prescription drug coverage.
  • Dental: you can enhance your and/or your family’s dental coverage with any plan. This can include orthodontic coverage, higher maximums and more frequent recall exams.
  • Hospital: if you want semi-private or private hospital coverage this can be added to most insurance plans.
  • Enhanced Vision: you can add higher prescription glasses/contacts coverage for you and/or your family.
  • Travel Coverage: you can add additional days to your trip duration for travel insurance.

Who is covered

Single – if you have no eligible dependents you can apply for a single health & dental insurance plan.

Family – if you have one or more eligible dependents, you can apply to cover them under the plan as well to get health and dental coverage. Eligible spouse needs to be common-law spouse or married, and eligible children are up to age 21.

What it costs

The price of the health and dental insurance plan will depend on two things: which plan you choose and your age(s). The available plans go from the least amount of coverage (maximums, what is covered, etc.) to the highest offering. The price for each will depend on which age band you and/or your family members fall into. Feel free to contact us to get the right insurance plans and we can send you a quote. All we need are the ages of whoever you are covering in the health and dental benefits:

Frequently asked questions

Question MarkWhat if I or my family members are taking prescription drugs already?

This is not a problem - there are individual plans that do not require health questions and that will cover you for any current medications or pre-existing conditions that you or anyone in your family has.

Question MarkHow do I submit claims?

Claims can be submitted online or through paper. You will receive a drug card and a welcome email with instructions on how to register online so you can start submitting claims. You will receive a quick payment if you submit your claims online.

Question MarkAre braces covered?

This depends on which private dental insurance you choose. Typically orthodontics coverage is only covered on the highest tier plans or with an add-on. Also, some dental insurance plans do not have a maximum for fillings, X-rays, extractions, and root canals, allowing you to receive the necessary treatment without any financial constraints.

Question MarkI just lost my job and benefits, can I apply for individual health and dental insurance?

Definitely. Since you are leaving group coverage you actually have more options for individual health and dental insurance. Insurers will allow you access to more plans since you are leaving group coverage. They just need to be applied for within 90 days of leaving group coverage. Contact Orr Insurance to get the right health and dental insurance.

Question MarkDo I have to cover all of my family members?

No. You can apply for health and dental insurance coverage on whichever family members you want to.

Question MarkAre there cancellation fees?

No. You do pay two months upfront for whichever plan you choose, but there are no cancellation fees.
