Driver’s License Renewals

Most people are aware that they don’t need to pay for license plate stickers any longer however there are some other important changes that have happened.

Ontario is no longer mailing you a notification that your driver’s license is expiring.  If you allow your driver’s license to lapse and you drive unlicensed your car insurance is not valid.

The policy states you must be “authorized by law” to operate a vehicle.  If you are unlicensed you are no longer authorized by law to drive and would have no insurance.

Also – even though you are not required to pay for your license sticker you are still required to renew it (you won’t receive a new one).  The Province has also stopped mailing the notice of sticker renewal.

You can register online to be notified when your driver’s license or license plate sticker is expiring.  We encourage everyone to do so to avoid a potentially very costly problem.
